The Founder’s Gate commemorates the life of Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts. In the 1950s, the Girl Scouts of the USA purchased her family home and birthplace. They hired Stephen Bond as the restoration architect. Bond designed the gate featured in this ornament. The center trefoils represent the three parts of the promise. The largest trefoil is copied from the design of the original membership pin and is surrounded by 1912, the year Girl Scouts was founded. The smaller two trefoils contain the birth and death years of Juliette. On each side there are two vertical columns of small trefoils representing the Girl Scout Laws. This gate is on front of the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace at Street level and has become a popular Girl Scout icon in Savannah, GA. The ornament is made from brass, with an antique silver finish and the measurement is W = 2.13” X H = 2.75.”
